Located in Utah, Davis County is a beautiful area of land north of Salt Lake City. In land area it is the smallest county in Utah but has a large population, 238,994 in 2000 and by 2006 it had grown to about 276,259.
Salt Lake County Utah is the most populous county in the state. As of 2007, the population was around at 1,009,518. It was named for the Great Salt Lake nearby. It occupies a valley and is surrounded by majestic mountains on three sides, the Oquirrh Mountains to the west and the Wasatch Range to the east and south. In addition, the Great Salt Lake is partially within the northwestern section of the county. The county is famous for its ski resorts, and Salt Lake City which hosted the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
Davis county contains several large cities and many smaller communities as well. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area, but, geographically, the southern half of the county has more in common with Salt Lake City than with Ogden. Its county seat is Farmington and its largest city is Layton.
Davis County also contains the Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington, the main amusement park serving the Wasatch Front. There are many wonderful resources, areas for recreation and attractions available within a relatively small travel area.
Utah County, sometimes referred to as "Happy Valley" lies just south of Salt Lake County. As of 2000, the population was 368,536 and by 2007 was estimated at 483,702. It was named for the Spanish name (Yuta) for the Ute Indians. The county seat and largest city is Provo.
